A Haven For Outdoor Enthusiasts

The Santana 35, Raven, sailing between St. Helens and Sand Island

Over sixty miles of the Columbia River grace the north and east boundaries of Columbia County. Extensive trail networks run through the hills. Camping is available in many city and county parks. Each year, the Seattle to Portland Bike Race passes through, the region's yacht clubs visit and the waters fill with kayakers.

National Geographic Adventure recently featured Hobie sailing in Scappoose Bay. Scappoose Bay Kayaking rents Hobie Adventure Island trimarans, which can be paddled, pedaled or sailed in the bay, in Multnomah Channel and on the Columbia River.

The nature trail at Scappoose Bay is an excellent bird watching spot. Herons, osprey, eagles, gulls and swans are among the many species that can be seen.
